Build High-level Athleticism

I’m William Uraga — a coach, an athlete, and a warrior!

I’m proud to introduce my official boxing program! Old School Prize Fighter!

I’ve been around boxing for eight years. During that time, I’ve seen and studied some of the best techniques and training methods in the sport. Along the journey, I noticed that while modern boxers are athletic and skilled, they often lack something the old-school fighters had — heart, patience, brute force, and raw strength.

You see, old-school boxers competed consistently while avoiding injury. Everything from the way they trained to the lost of techniques like hand manipulation and movement inspired me to study their training routines.

That’s where Old School Prize Fighter was born!

This boxing program will have you training like the greats of the past!

Forget the fancy machines and flashy gyms. This program takes it back to the roots — old-school weights, raw calisthenics, and relentless movement. Built to forge real strength, endurance, and grit — the kind of engine a fighter needs for a 12 round war.

Let this program give you the edge over the modern-day fighter.

OLD SCHOOL PRIZE FIGHTER PROGRAM BREAKDOWN 1

Most boxing programs lack a true understanding of how to properly prepare an athlete for competition through strength and conditioning — getting them to their peak physical shape. You often hear stories of boxers getting injured before or during the match — anything from brittle hands and popped shoulders to wrist injuries, broken jaws, and more.

Let’s talk about how Old School Prize Fighter stands apart from other boxing programs.

Problems With Most S&C Boxing Programs:

❌ BODY BUILDING STYLE TRAINING

Most modern boxing programs have fighter following a “functional bodybuilding” routine that relies on fancy machines, flashy exercise selections, and high rep ranges. But this approach doesn’t build real-world strength or power.

POPULAR ENDURANCE CIRCUITS

Conditioning is another area where modern trainers miss the mark. Popular endurance circuits are designed for six-rounders, but boxing isn’t purely an anaerobic power based sport.

POOR UNDERSTANDING OF MOVEMENT MECHANICS

Throwing, rotation, and balance are essential for becoming a great boxer. Unfortunately, training for these mechanics is often misunderstood. You don’t just train your abs for rotation, your shoulders for throwing, or single-leg exercises for balance. Developing these qualities goes beyond isolated movements — it starts from the ground up, engaging the whole body and restructuring the feet for optimal balance.

❌ BASIC SKILLS

In the age of modern boxing, old-school trainers are a rarity. Most gyms teach fighters just the basics — fundamentals and a few gimmicks — leaving out the timeless skills that separate champions from contenders.

The Old School Prize Fighter Program Advantage:

OLD SCHOOL STRENGTH & POWER

This program is designed to build real strength and power that translates beyond the gym. True strength isn’t measured by heavy lifts alone — it’s also your stability, balance, and single-sided power. We develop all of this using a mix of old-school and modern

✅ REAL BOXING CONDITIONING

This conditioning old-school fighters followed was built for a 15-round war. This required a strong aerobic base, and long, steady cardio was the key to developing it. Anaerobic power can be added through targeted cardio or strength training, but it should never serve as the foundation of a fighter’s conditioning.

✅ MOVEMENT QUALITY & LONGEVITY

Throughout history, fighters around the world trained to develop these qualities in unique ways — chopping wood, using Indian clubs and maces, throwing stones and medicine balls, jump roping, footwork drills, and most importantly, training their bodies to be flexible like wrestler. All of these are dynamic movements — the same kinds of movements we focus on this program.

✅ LOST ART TIPS & TRICKS

Being a student of the game, I’ve dug deep into the history of boxing and rediscovered the lost arts of the old-timers — precise catching and parrying, the mid-guard utilizing the left for offense and the right for defense, wrestling type clinch work, and countless other forgotten techniques. These are skills that set fighters in this program apart from the rest.

OLD SCHOOL PRIZE FIGHTER PROGRAM BREAKDOWN 2

The off-season focuses on developing any physical qualities a fighter may be lacking — whether that’s building muscle, maintaining on aerobic base, increasing strength, enhancing general physical preparedness, or improving movement quality. During this phase, a fighter can pick one of our other programs, such as Path of the Warrior or Superhero Body Masterclass, to further address and improve these areas.

Note: This template focuses on aerobic development, general physical preparedness (GPP), and improving movement quality. Skills training will be conducted separately with a boxing trainer, not an S&C coach, for all templates below.

Off-Season (8-12 weeks out):

Pre-Camp (6-8 weeks out):

We focus on improving and maintaining a strong aerobic base, developing all ranges of strength, and enhancing movement quality. During this phase, dynamic effort work is introduced to build speed and power. Skills training also ramps up, incorporating more sparring, bag work, and intervals.

Fight Camp (4-6 weeks out):

In this phase, we continue to maintain movement quality, but our focus shifts toward more dynamic, speed-based work. We also begin transitioning from absolute strength to relative strength for max-effort training. This transition will depend on the athlete’s individual needs and recovery rate. This shift also helps reduce spinal loading from heavy lifting.

Conditioning during this stage transitions from primarily aerobic training to more anaerobic work, better replicating the intensity and duration of fight rounds. Anaerobic conditioning should typically begin about 3-4 weeks before fight week.

This conditioning approach is inspired by Floyd Mayweather’s training methodology, where he emphasized aerobic conditioning earlier in camp and gradually incorporate more anaerobic work as the fight approached to match the specific energy demands of boxing.

Peaking (1-2 weeks out):

We begin the peaking phase about 1-2 weeks before fight day. During this time, absolute strength work is completely removed, and the focus shifts to repeated-effort training (65-85%) combined with calisthenics to maintain strength without accumulating fatigue. Dynamic-effort work is performed at lower intensities to preserve speed and explosiveness. The emphasis during this phase is on recovery, movement quality, skill refinement, and gradually tapering down conditioning to ensure the athlete reaches optimal readiness and physiological balance for peak fight performance.

UNLOCKING YOUR POTENTIAL AS A FIGHTER

Let this program guide you toward the highest version of yourself — the rare fighter who appears once in a generation. Every principal within it was forged through my own journey in the ring: disciplining the mind and understanding what truly separates the ordinary from the extraordinary. These were methods that I’ve kept secret, the inner framework that gave me the advantage against other fighters. I now share these methods with the fighters who can grow past just trying to win and instead learn what it means to truly master their craft.

This program isn’t only about preparing for a fight — it’s about becoming a smarter, sharper, more disciplined fighter who steps into the ring with the mindset of a champion.
